Top 4 Reasons to Choose Dental Implants

Improved Quality of Life. Dental implants will make your smile look like new again so you can feel confident in your ability to eat, laugh, and live without worrying about your dentures or missing teeth.
Secure Comfort. Dental Implants are surgically placed in the jaw bone where they integrate with the bone. You will never have to worry about messy denture pastes or creams again! Your implants won't move or slip so you can live a normal life!
Preserve Facial Shape and Jawbone Integrity. Bone loss in the jaw occurs almost immediately after loosing a tooth. Without the root to stimulate it, the jawbone will eventually dissolve to a point where the cheeks and lips are no longer supported. This can cause an aged, shrunken appearance. Implants preserve bone and help maintain facial integrity.
Healthy Teeth Are Unaffected. Bridges require the grinding down of health adjacent teeth and can often be uncomfortable to wear. Dental implants will not affect healthy teeth and can actually help prevent further tooth loss due to jaw bone deterioration.

Bone Grafting in Cincinnati, OH

Bone loss is a common result of tooth loss. Without a tooth root to stimulate the jaw bone, it can deteriorate over time. There is, however, a successful technique to replace lost jaw bone. Dr. Al-Zubi performs bone grafting procedures in his Cincinnati cosmetic and dental implant office to restore your bone density levels.

There are three types of grafting methods used to replace lost jaw bone: autogenous, allograft, and xenograft. The distinction among the three depends upon the origination of the grafting material. Autogenous material is taken from the donor’s own body, while allograft material is taken from the body of a cadaver. Xenograft materials are from a non-human source, generally bovine in nature. Of all three methods, autogenous is most often recommended since the risk of rejection is much lower than that associated with foreign materials. In addition, the use of allograft and xenograft do not require a second surgical site, as is the case with autogenous grafts.

The Procedure to Replace Lost Jaw bone with an Autogenous Graft

When you visit our office for bone grafting, Dr. Al-Zubi generally uses local anesthesia to ensure your comfort. Once the treatment site is numb, an incision is made allowing Dr. Al-Zubi to assess how much bone must be grafted. Dr. Al-Zubi will then make another incision in the gum tissue near the lower front teeth. The bone is removed and the donor site is stitched closed. This bone is then placed in the initial treatment site and secured with titanium screws. Dr. Al-Zubi will close the tissue with sutures.

What to Expect After the Procedure to Replace Lost Jawbone

After the procedure, Dr. Al-Zubi may prescribe antibiotics and pain medication and will provide you with a set of post-procedure instructions. A soft food diet is recommended for the first week, but the entire healing process may take six months or more. A follow up appointment will be scheduled within seven to ten days at our Cincinnati implantology office to evaluate your progress and remove your sutures.

If you have lost teeth and are concerned that you may need bone grafting prior to replacing missing teeth, contact Dr. Al-Zubi today to schedule your personalized consultation.
