DÈtente Dentistry: Cincinnati Specialists Teach Moscow Dentists By Carol Lloyd One of the most effective new approaches to improved East-West relations may be through the mouth. So says Jack Hahn, DDS, international expert in implant dentistry. Hahn and Greg Sherman DDS, partners in the Cosmetic and Implant Dental (CID) Center of Cincinnati, recently presented their techniques to 350 dentists in Moscow at the Fifth Annual Festival of Dental Education program sponsored by the Chicago Center for Advanced Dentistry. It's a return engagement for Hahn, inventor and developer of the US's most popular dental implant system, Nobel Biocare's Replace system. As Clinical Director of the Chicago Center of Advanced Dentistry, he's been to Moscow four times this year already. This time he gave the keynote address and taught a course on implant dentistry with a live demonstration. Creating That Hollywood Smile Dr. Sherman demonstrated leading-edge technology practices in cosmetic dentistry. His course - "Creating that Hollywood Smile" -- showed digital imaging of a patient's existing smile and then altering the image so the patient could see what his/her new smile would look like after cosmetic procedures such as bleaching, bonding, veneers, inlays and overlays. Russian dentists are fascinated with the approaches and eager to learn, says Hahn. "They can't get enough of it. The younger dentists especially are finding that their patients are more interested than ever before in looking good and having good oral health," he said. Interest in cosmetic and implant dentistry has also been spurred by Russia's strengthened economy. Leading Authority on Implants Such worldwide travel is nothing new to Hahn. He did the first implant dentistry at the University of Beijing, China, four years ago and has since returned five times as Chief Implant Consultant for the Department of Oral Implantology at Beijing Medical University. Upcoming training will take him to Sweden, Italy, Germany, Israel and Hungary. Hahn is one of the world's leading authorities on dental implants, a technique that replaces slipping or ill-fitting dentures with non-removable implants that look and feel like natural teeth. He has successfully placed more than 30,000 dental implants in patients all over the globe. In his Moscow presentations, Hahn doesn't go into the more advanced procedures such as bone grafts used at CID. "We keep it simple," he says. CID offers leading-edge dentistry procedures supported by its own in-house dental laboratory. Incorporating the state of the art lab with the treatment facilities allows the four CID dentists to provide the highest quality of care with the utmost in patient convenience. |
